Roof replacement

When the roof needs replacing, and when it doesn’t

Replacement is the answer when too much is damaged to patch, or the roof was near the end of its life before the storm.

Our written findings say which it is, slope by slope, with photos. If a repair is enough, we say so and quote the repair.

What goes on

Three roofs for hail country

  • Architectural shingles

The usual choice for Panhandle homes. Thicker than the old three-tab shingle, in a range of colors.

  • Impact-resistant shingles

Class 4 is a UL 2218 impact rating for the product, not a credential for a contractor. Some insurers discount for it and each company decides, so ask yours.

  • Standing seam metal

Costs more up front and lasts longer. Large hail can dent metal, and whether a dent counts as damage depends on your policy.

The job

How a replacement runs

  1. 01

    Step 1: Before

We call the day before, tell you where the crew will park, and ask you to move cars and take things off walls.

  2. 02

    Step 2: Tear-off

We take off only what can be covered the same day. The deck gets checked, and the price per sheet applies to any wood that needs replacing.

  3. 03

    Step 3: Install

Underlayment, drip edge, flashing, vents, then shingles or panels, with the crew tied off.

  4. 04

    Step 4: Cleanup

A magnet sweep of the yard for nails, and your paperwork and warranty terms handed to you.

Before you sign

How long does a replacement take?

Most homes take one to three days. Large, steep or metal roofs take longer, and wind or rain moves the dates. We tell you when we call the day before.

Can you put a new roof over the old one?

Sometimes. Code limits it, and we usually advise a tear-off after hail so the deck can be checked.

What if it rains during the job?

We tear off only what we can cover that day and tarp what is open.

Ready for a look at the roof?

Tell us the address and when the storm hit. We will call you to set a day.
